We’re partnering with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Solomon Islands Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL). Our focus is supporting MAL to accelerate and enhance its work to deliver lasting, meaningful change for the sector and the people of the Solomon Islands. We’re working closely alongside MAL’s Planning Division, who are responsible for coordinating the Ministry to implement sector-wide plans and projects (including the Agriculture Strategy, ASGIP, currently under consultation).

This opportunity will see you embedded in the heart of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock for a one year consultant contract (with possibility to extend).

You will work closely with staff in the Planning Division, an in-country Delivery Associates colleague, and colleagues across Delivery Associates’ global network. You will support MAL leaders, including through use of data, to successfully deliver their highest priority initiatives for the sector.

What you will do 

  • Support identification of MAL’s priority initiatives, using data;
  • Support identification of (and agreement to) meaningful, measurable targets for these initiatives, using data;
  • Lead data analysis to generate insights and information on implementation of priority initiatives;
  • Lead development of user-friendly data products for leadership meetings, to assist leaders in solving problems and tracking progress in priority initiatives;
  • Lead the collation and analysis of data to create a clear, continuous picture of delivery progress;
  • Support colleagues working on monitoring and evaluation by providing advice on effective data collection and collation; and
  • Use data to trouble-shoot implementation issues as they arise.

Required skills/Experience

For this vacancy we are seeking a candidate with particular skills in data. You should be able to present economic and project-related data in intuitive, interesting, and user-friendly ways—including through graphs, charts and maps.

In addition, you should have strong, adaptable communication skills which enable you to work with the Minister as well as rural farmers.
Successful candidates will be able to:

  • Use data to identify issues and solve problems – expertise in data collection and analysis, including in conveying information to a lay audience.
  • Build relationships – experience building trust-based relationships and partnerships to deliver shared goals.
  • Solve problems – logically analyse issues and identify potential solutions.
  • Work well in a team – able to work well with busy and diverse teams.
  • Write high-quality presentations and reports – able to write concise, clear, and structured documents.
  • Think logically – able to assist with sequencing and planning delivery.

Other Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional experience in a relevant sector.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and Pijin
  • Availability to start in September 2021.
