Job Description

As our work in MESA grows, more and more of our clients see the value of communications as an embedded role and skill set on multidisciplinary teams. As our colleagues on the consulting team drive progress towards real-world impact in their projects, we need someone who can help gather success stories from the field, manage production of written and multimedia content, and help build the communications capacity of our internal and external teams. 

Mindset: You are organized, attentive to detail, and collaborative, able to track multiple moving pieces on a project. You have a keen eye for consistency, clarity, and opportunity. You are a strong communicator with a background in marketing and communications strategy, and you are experienced in facilitating creative deliverables.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a communications strategist you will:

  • Work with DA colleagues to elevate and integrate the communications component of the work we do with government and philanthropic partners, including change management and promotional communications workstreams
  • Coordinate between DA leadership, DA consulting teams, the Regional Communications Lead, freelancers, and clients to facilitate strategic, quality deliverables 
  • Support scoping and strategy for business development proposals for the creative team 

A Day in the Life

Here are some example of what your work may look like:

  • Attend daily meetings with the internal team and clients
  • Travel to field visits with the consulting team to capture success stories on the ground
  • Coach DA teams as well as project teams on the ground to capture strategic, compelling stories as part of their work
  • Contribute to regular client deliverables, such as powerpoint presentations, monthly newsletters, annual events, and more
  • Plan content and creative calendars/needs for the year in advance
  • Plan or participate in a communications strategy workshop for clients
  • Support development of a communications strategy, including background research, channel reviews, colleague and client collaboration
  • Conduct research through focus groups, interviews, and document review 
  • Coordinate creative teams to ideate and iterate on creative deliverables
  • Participate in routine meetings with clients and coaches
